To prevent Mafia-style gangs from being shielded from the law, it's necessary to weed out official corruption, says an article in People Daily. Excerpts:
Wen Qiang, the former police chief of Chongqing municipality, was sentenced to death on April 14 after being found guilty of accepting bribes, rape, property scams and of protecting five different gangs.
Mafia-style gangs would not be able to conduct their activities without being shielded from the law. In order to crack down on gangs, it's necessary to first ferret out corrupt officials.
The performance and supervision of officials should be put into practice.
A sound and effective anti-corruption mechanism must be built. This mechanism may not root out all wrongdoing, but will go a long way in finding the rotten apples.
