MANILA - China and the Philippines are working on creating a joint website for people-to-people exchanges to further improve mass media and information technology in both countries, a senior Philippine government official said on Wednesday.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma disclosed Wednesday following his meeting last month with the China International Publishing Group (CIPG) and China Internet Information led by Huang Youyi for the joint project.

Coloma invited the Chinese delegation to explore partnership between the Philippines and China in information management as well as in sharing and development between the two countries.

Based on the proposal, the Philippines-China website will host information on tourism, current news, culture and education, partnerships and joint projects or programs and developments in information and communication technology (ICT).

Aside from the Philippines-China website, Coloma also highlighted the importance of people-to-people exchanges. Both parties also plan to have exchanges of media, journalists and information and communication officials between the two countries.

Collaborative efforts are also being worked out for book publishing, with CIPG being one of the largest importer and exporter publishing companies in China. The Philippines and China will produce books regarding economic and cultural history shared by both countries.

During the visit, Huang and his group toured the Malacanang Museum and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). BSP officials introduced the country's culture by showcasing the Philippine currency and the BSP cultural museum to the visiting Chinese delegation.
