Bilingual city Montreal is now the world's No 1 student city, bringing an end to Paris' four-year domination. Besides Montreal, Canadian cities Vancouver and Toronto also rank 10th and 11st on the list, as the county is eager to attract more international students.

Ben Sowter, head of research at QS, predicts that Canada will become a major player at the educational market and be an alternative of Europe and US, the two traditional destinations for international students.

According to a city spokesperson, Montreal is seeing large number of international students, with student numbers from China, India, France, and Iran skyrocketing in the past year.
