Karen Mok signs deal with Sony Music; also launches music label

Hong Kong singer-actress Karen Mok Man-wai has recently signed contract with Sony Music as a soloist and also teamed up with it to launch her own music label, Mok-A-Bye Baby Records. [Photo provided to China Daily]

Speaking about the new alliance, Denis Handlin, chairman & CEO, Australia & New Zealand, and President, Asia Sony Music Entertainment, says: "It is a great pleasure to work together with Karen Mok again. She has shown a versatile ability as an artist and we believe that she will continue to leave a mark on Chinese pop music."

Meanwhile,with this year marking the 25th anniversary for Mok in the entertainment industry, Mok has released an album, titled Halftime, in which she worked with over 20 songwriters and music producers she has collaborated with in her previous albums.

And te first musician that came to her mind as she was working on the new album was Taiwan singer-songwriter and music producer Jonathan Lee Chung-shan, who has worked with Mok since 1996.

Lee picked his classic song, titled Fly, for Mok's new album.

And Lee's student, singer-songwriter Li Jianqing, also played the violin and guitar for the song.

Speaking about Lee, Mok says: "Lee is pivotal in my career. He has witnessed my growth from a newcomer to a mature singer."

Lee has written some of Mok's popular hits, including Cloudy Day and Twelfth Floor.

Now, Mok is touring globally until 2019 to mark the anniversary.

Speaking about the tour, Mok says: "I went through all of my songs, probably about 200, to pick the song list for the tour.

"It's hard to believe that I've performed so many songs and it's hard to pick songs because there are so many songs that are special to me."

Speaking about her career, Mok, who was born in Hong Kong, says she wanted to be a performer as a child.

And, so far, the singer-actress has starred in more than 50 movies and released over 20 albums.
