BEIJING - All current staff with China's disciplinary and supervisory organs claim to have discarded membership cards that had been received as gifts.

According to a statement from the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), as of Friday, about 810,000 people working for the disciplinary and supervisory authorities have submitted reports to prove that they are no longer holders of such cards.

On May 27, the CCDI issued a circular requiring officials and employees currently working in disciplinary and supervisory departments to discard "all kinds of membership cards received in various names" by June 20.

The membership card campaign targeting potential attempts at bribery was the latest move of the CCDI, the CPC's disciplinary watchdog, to fight corruption.

The campaign to discard membership cards has "attained the anticipated objective," according to the statement.

The campaign has demonstrated disciplinary and supervisory authorities' determination to "abstain from hedonism and extravagance," it said.

The CCDI said it will launch a sample investigation into the implementation of the campaign.

The commission also required local disciplinary and supervisory authorities to conduct daily and continuous inspections into the implementation of the campaign and accept supervision from CPC members, the public and media.
