Inferno, the latest cinematic adaptation of Dan Brown's novel by the same name, is expected to hit the Chinese mainland and North America simultaneously this fall.

American author Brown is known to Chinese readers since the publication of his best-selling book The Da Vinci Code. And, when its namesake movie, starring Tom Hanks, was released in the mainland in 2006, it raked in 105 million yuan ($16.67 million) to become the third-highest grossing feature that year on the Chinese box office.

Inferno, the third movie in the series, reprises Hanks as fictional professor Robert Langdon and is still directed by Ron Howard. The film, which released its first trailer on Sunday, is set to open in North American on Oct 28.

A sequel to the second installment, Angels & Demons (2009), Inferno finds Langdon awaking up in a hospital with memory loss issues. The latest movie has been shot in Italy and Turkey.
