BRASILIA - Brazil's Sports Ministry on Wednesday presented a report that showed all the mega-constructions of multiple stadiums and supporting infrastructure is on track for completion ahead of the FIFA 2014 World Cup.

A full 1,000 days before the onset of the World Cup, Brazil's Sports Minister Orlando Silva said all the principal works in the 12 Brazilian cities that will host matches during the tournament, including stadiums, airports, ports and road networks, are expected to be finished ahead of schedule set in 2013.

"The issue of stadiums is already resolved. We will have nine stadiums finished in 2012 and the rest will be finished in 2013. The advance on works of the airports is also important and we are very satisfied. Stadiums and airports are the two most important pillars for the World Cup," said Silva.

The 12 Brazilian cities selected to host games during the 2014 World Cup are Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Manaus, Recife, Fortaleza, Natal and Cuiaba.

Silva said the government's next steps will be focused on the development of a security plan for the event and a set of actions to promote Brazil in foreign markets.

"We are going to take advantage of the World Cup to promote the country," he said, adding a special bidding campaign would be launched later this month for projects related to promoting the country in its social, cultural and tourist aspects.

To favor transparency, the Brazilian government will launch the official internet site for the World Cup www.copa2014.gov.br in its definite version this Friday, where all official news about the works in progress and other related activities will be published.
