Myanmar president meets Aung San Suu Kyi for first time

NAY PYI TAW - Myanmar President U Thein Sein met with noted political figure Aung San Suu Kyi at the President' s office in Nay Pyi Taw Friday for the first time, according to official sources.

The highest level meeting came a week after Aung San Suu Kyi met with Union Minister of Labor U Aung Kyi in Yangon for the second round on August 12, agreeing to four points -- to join hand in hand to carry out tasks for the country's stability and peace and development to fulfill the wish of the people; to cooperate constructively for the development of the country's economic and social affair and for the development of democracy system; to avoid disputed views and carry out cooperative tasks on reciprocal basis; and to ?continue dialogue.

Meanwhile, at a meeting in the capital on Wednesday involving officials from economic and social sectors, associations and organizations, President U Thein Sein outlined some new policy dealing with the country's economy, armed conflicts with ethnic armed groups and dissidents staying in and out of the country.

Dealing with dissidents in and out of the country, U Thein Sein said "Any individuals and organizations in the nation, that have different views from the government, should not take account of disagreements", inviting them to work with the government for common goals in the national interest.
