GAZA - A Palestinian was killed and seven others were wounded when Israeli fighter jets attacked three targets in the Gaza Strip early Friday morning, medical sources and witnesses said.

The airstrike hit two training sites for the armed wing of Hamas, the Islamic movement that controls the Gaza Strip.

An elderly man was killed when a bomb hit one of the sites in Beit Lahiya town in northern Gaza Strip and damaged a nearby house where he lived, said Adham Abu Selmia, a medical spokesman.

Seven people were wounded in the raid, most of them children and women from the house, witnesses said.

The Israeli raid came shortly after Palestinian militants in Gaza fired three rockets into Israel. The Palestinian rocket attacks, claimed by a group nominally affiliated with President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, were in retaliation against an Israeli airstrike Thursday afternoon in?which two Palestinians were killed.

The afternoon airstrike targeted a car traveling in Gaza City, killing the two onboard, Essam Al-Batsh, 43, and his nephew, Subhi.

Israel said Essam was a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyears Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah, and was involved in planning the attack in southern Israel's Red Sea city of Eilat in 2007 which killed three Israelis.

Subhi happened to be a member of Hamas, which has been controlling the Gaza Strip since squashing Fatah in a 2007 fighting here.
