SEOUL -?South Korea's military has lowered its cyber alert level to normal, about a week after it was raised in the wake of the death of Kim Jong-il, the late leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), local media reported on Wednesday.

An official from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the level called Infocon, which was elevated to level 4 against potential cyber attacks from the DPRK, is now back at the normal level of 5, Yonhap news agency in Seoul reported.

"No signs of cyber terrorism, such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on websites of major government agencies, have been detected so far, and we have concluded that there is a low likelihood of that in the future," Yonhap quoted the official as saying.

After Kim Jong-il's death was announced on December 19, South Korea's military also doubled the number of officers in charge of network security.

The JCS, meanwhile, has decided to maintain the readiness level of armed forces in the country at level 2 after the funeral of Kim Jong-il on Wednesday.
