"When I grew up, every time I saw children dressed in rags, I would always think of my childhood and hoped to do something for them if my conditions changed for the better," he said.
After retiring from a local beverage factory in 1999, Chen finally had the chance to carry out his ideas.
"My conditions changed after all my children got married," he said. "I had more time and energy."
